It’s a false belief that the reason people are overweight is because they lack the willpower to eat healthy.
It’s a false belief that the reason people have poor money skills is because they just don’t have the willpower to save.
And it’s a false belief that the reason people don’t start exercising is because they lack the willpower to get up and go to the gym every day.
Those are lazy answers to a problem that is much more complex than that.
And the reason for this is because if you look at behavior modifications, you’ll see that the real reason people behave against their self interest is because of a myriad of reasons.
1) They may have a lack of incentives.
2) They may have a lack of social accountability.
3) They may not have the information they need.
When it comes to creating better habits in your life, don’t rely too much on willpower because lack of willpower is not always the reason for poor habits.
Instead, in order to build good habits, you first need to create environments for yourself where you can then train a better behavior into your life.
If you don’t do this, then you’re going to struggle to create better habits in your life because willpower is typically going to fail you in the long run.
